Going into the Elite 11 competition this week, Katin Houser was stress-free after making his college decision a week prior, picking Michigan State football after decommitting from Boise State.
That seemed to pay major dividends as he looked calm, cool, and collected during his Elite 11 drills and even won the Pro Day drill on the second day. Finishing with the top score in that drill while impressing the talent evaluators in attendance really opened some eyes and he maintained that momentum throughout the rest of the event.
After the third day and according to the final rankings, Houser was named one of the official Elite 11 quarterbacks.
For those wondering, this is actually a bigger honor than earning an invite to the Elite 11 finals because there are 20 quarterbacks there and the staff there chooses the top group or “Elite 11”.
Houser made the cut over AJ Duffy, a former Michigan State target who picked Florida State and is one of the highest-ranked quarterbacks in the 2022 class.
Another top MSU target who was probably next on the list if Mel Tucker missed on Houser was Luther Richesson who also made the Elite 11.
But if Houser’s performance proved anything, it’s that he deserves to be bumped up in the recruiting rankings.
Houser is more than “just a three-star”
While his composite ranking might be in the three-star range right now, 247Sports lists him as a four-star and so does ESPN while Rivals is holding his composite rating back.
This performance at the Elite 11 finals, including a first-place finish in one of the drills, should do nothing but launch him up the rankings. He’s a top-400 recruit in the composite rankings, but his bump should be somewhere in the top-250. Is this too much to ask for? Not really, because he proved that he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the class at the Elite 11 camp.
Houser needs that bump in the rankings and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before it comes.
