The Yankees, desperate for a consistent hitting outfielder, are on the verge of acquiring slugging left fielder Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, and early reports are that the Yankees have dealt away a truckload of minor-leaguers for the big bat that could save their season.

According to ESPN”s Jeff Passan, the Yankees have traded right-hander Glenn Otto, second baseman Ezequiel Duran, shortstop Josh Smith and infielder/outfielder Trevor Hauver as part of the package.

Some reports said outfielder Everson Pereira is also involved.

Passan tweeted: “While the top of the New York Yankees’ farm system isn’t loaded with star prospects — though Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez have that potential — their organizational depth is tremendous. Their domestic affiliates are a combined 198-106 this year. Depth got them Joey Gallo.”

Passan tweeted that “evaluators are saying [the Rangers] did very well. Off-the-charts numbers for the guys they got.”

So what are the Yankees getting in the trade? Per the New York Post’s Joel Sherman:

“The Yankees have long liked Gallo. He would bring needed LH power/diversification. He, like Judge, is no lumbering big man, He can defend, athletic. But he also would brings a lot more swing and miss to the lineup.”

The scouting report from The Athletic’s Jim Bowden also bodes well for the Yankees:

*Improves the balance of the lineup as they were too right-handed

*Gives them versatility as he can play RF,LF,3B,1B *Improves OF de

*adds athleticism

*might hit 50 HR playing 1/2 games at Yankee stadium

*controllable thru 2022

*can handle NY pressure

Before the trade Wednesday, Bowden was singing Gallo’s praises in a conversation with Jayson Stark.

“He’s a valuable guy because he plays first, third, left, right. You can even put him in center. He’s won a Gold Glove. He’s got power. You know, you don’t want to hit him three, four or five. You want to hit him six or seven and take the three-run homers. But Joey Gallo with left-handed bat?

“And you know, even a team like the Yankees who may need to think about next year as much as this year, you put him in left field, get another left-handed hitting guy in that lineup and a Gold Glove defender in left, it would make a lot of sense.”
