Although the number of people filing for unemployment benefits in Louisiana has dropped, more people who were already receiving benefits are still out of work.

Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending July 25 dropped to 18,511 from the previous week’s total of 32,079, according to Louisiana Workforce Commission. There were 2,022 initial claims were filed during the week of July 27, 2019.

“Continued claims” for the week ending July 25 increased to 324,357 from the previous week’s total of 313,117. There were 17,740 continued claims filed for the week ending July 27, 2019.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 27,090 from the previous week’s average of 27,956.

The four-week moving average of continued claims increased to 315,881 from the previous week’s average of 311,314.

An additional $600 per week from the federal government for people who lost their job or hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic ends this week.
