Bulletin report

The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico’s (CFSNM) 100 Who Give Founders Circle will host an outdoor fundraiser from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at CFSNM, 2600 El Paseo Road.

During the event, there will be a giveaway of Kona Ice to anyone who stops by to make a donation, CFSNM said in a news release.

Along with Hispanic Leaders in Philanthropy and the Boomerang Philanthropists group, 100 Who Give Las Cruces is one of three giving circles hosted by the nonprofit CFSNM.

“100 Who Give Las Cruces is an outlet that allows anyone to give back to the organizations that make southern New Mexico a great place to live,” the news release said. “The concept is 100 people giving $100 to collectively raise $10,000 for a charity or cause within the community. The beneficiary is chosen by those who donated, through a nomination and voting system.”

In 2019, 100 Who Give Las Cruces was created by Tamara Ahner, Diane Calhoun, Terra Winter, Chriss Martinez and Ann Woodling. It will celebrate its second anniversary with an in-person giving event Thursday, Sept. 30 at Icebox Brewing Company, 2825 W. Picacho Ave.

The nonprofits that have received funding from 100 Who Give include Casa de Peregrinos, Catholic Charities, Aggie Cupboard, Boys & Girls Club of Las Cruces, La Casa, Inc. domestic violence program and Soroptimists International of Las Cruces (SILC).

“SILC was thrilled to receive funding from the 100 Who Give event and CFSNM,” said SILC President Esther Devall. “We are part of a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. The funds we received will be used to help fund one of our signature programs, the Live Your Dream Awards. This is a unique education award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families.  It gives women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Nearly all the women who receive the Live Your Dream Award have overcome enormous obstacles, including poverty, teen pregnancy, substance abuse, homelessness and domestic violence. The recipients can use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education such as books, tuition, childcare and transportation.”

“Thanks to this gift from 100 Who Give, Soroptimist International of Las Cruces will be able to give five more Live Your Dream Awards to deserving women in our region,” Devall said.
