(KNSI) – Following President Joe Biden’s push for states and cities to give $100 to Americans who get vaccinated against COVID-19 in near future, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced Thursday that the state is following suit, offering Visa gift cards to state residents who get their first shot between July 30th and August 15th.
“We have made so much progress to combat this virus,” Walz said. “We cannot give up ground now, especially with students returning to the classroom this fall. Getting paid $100 to keep your family safe is a pretty good deal – all you have to do is roll up your sleeves.”
Starting August 4th, Minnesotans age 12 and older who receive their first COVID vaccine dose between July 30th and August 15th can claim their $100 incentive at mn.gov/covid19/100/. The webpage says the Minnesota Department of Health will verify applicants’ vaccine information to confirm they are eligible.
Walz’s office says the $100 rewards will be financed by up to $2.5 million from the state’s American Rescue Plan funding. Additional funding could also come via legislative approval and public-private grant partnerships. According to the 100 Dollar Vaccine Incentive webpage, the program is currently limited to 24,330 rewards.
“With school right around the corner, there is no better time to get vaccinated than right now,” said Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. “This shot is your ticket to keeping your loved ones, especially our children under 12, safe. The Delta variant is no match for our will to protect our fellow Minnesotans. Now, you’ll even get $100 for your time.”
