School is out for the summer and this gives Katy parents an opportunity to involve their students in local ways to give back. Here are two local nonprofits that are offering opportunities for Katy families to give back and support local students.

Red Apple School Supply Program

Katy Christian Ministries is once again taking donations for their Red Apple School Supply program.

“As more and more children head back to the classroom, it’s paramount that we provide them with the tools necessary to succeed in the classroom,” says KMC Social Services Director, Vickie Bernal. “After a year away for many students, adjusting back to a classroom setting may be difficult, but if they are given the instruments to flourish, then we believe they will.”

While registration for those who need assistance has closed, the locally based nonprofit is actively seeking donations to support families in need. The donations will be distributed in August before school starts.

All donations directly benefit Katy ISD families for the 2021-2022 school year.

KCM’s goal is to raise $35,000 in total to equip local area children with the tools necessary to be successful for the school year ahead.

Serving Katy for 37 Years

Katy Christian Ministries has been serving Katy and its surrounding communities for 37 years. They are a Social Services 501(c)3 organization. Learn more about their organization and services at their website.

School Uniform Drive

Clothed by Faith, another Katy-based nonprofit is gearing up to help students going back to school through their annual School Uniform Drive.

“We expect the need for school clothing will be even greater this year,” states the organization.

They are taking donations for their Bags of Hope that will benefit over 500 local children in need.

They do accept gently used children’s clothing or you can make a donation online.

  • $10 for a new pair of socks and underwear

  • $20 for 1 student to get 4 uniform shirts

  • $75 for 4 shirts, 2 bottoms, underwear, socks, and shoes

  • $150 gives 2 students 4 shirts, 2 bottoms, underwear, socks, and shoes

  • $3750 gives 50 students 4 shirts, 2 bottoms, underwear, socks, and shoes

“Clothes by Faith has made a huge impact by providing uniforms to our families during the back-to-school season for the last two years,” says Buckner Family Services. “Without Clothed by Faith families would really struggle to find uniforms for their children.”

Summer is a time for fun but it’s also a great opportunity to let Katy students give back to students in need. How will you involve your Katy student in giving back this Summer season?
