Can PG repeat this performance two more times?
Law Murray, Clippers beat writer: George had the best game of his postseason career. No, he will not have another 41 points in both Game 6 or a prospective Game 7. But that's because winning playoff games requires different pathways to wins.
George started going off right when the Suns took their only lead of the game, mid-third quarter. He played the game the right way, getting his teammates involved early, getting to the basket, then taking advantage of his hot streak while rebounding and defending. It's as much as you can ask for from George.
What can he do more? Cut the turnovers. George can still be better in Game 6 as a playmaker.
How Clippers adjusted in Game 5
Murray: The Clippers started small without Zubac, which they tried to do in Game 2. But the key was Morris finally showing signs of life, especially early. Playing through an effective Morris early set the tone for the Clippers, as he repeatedly beat on Booker for mid-post offense that he has rarely been able to show in this series.
Deandre Ayton wasn't able to take advantage of the smaller, swarming defenders, and was a major liability tonight for the Suns, who were outscored by a game-worst 22 points in Ayton's minutes.
Most concerning aspect of the loss for Phoenix
Jovan Buha, Lakers beat writer: The Suns' perimeter defense against the Clippers' small-ball attack. Despite being without Zubac, who had been their second- or third-best player overall in the series, the Clippers scored 58 points in the paint, roasting the Suns on switches and isos. They surgically decided which matchups and defenders to target, and repeatedly scored or drove and kicked until they found an open look.
Phoenix had held its ground against the Clippers' smaller lineup in the first four games, but the Clippers finally made shots and found a strategy that worked. Now it's on the Suns to respond and adjust.
