ESCANABA — Perhaps reflecting the Memorial Day weekend, state COVID-19 data Saturday listed only five more confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula, none in Delta, Menominee or Schoolcraft counties.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Saturday added only one case each in Marquette, Baraga, Chippewa, Houghton and Gogebic counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 19,977 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 431 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 144 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 218 confirmed cases and 253 probable, three confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 194 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 350 confirmed cases and 83 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 417 confirmed, 58 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 452 confirmed cases and 252 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 685 confirmed cases, 125 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 983 confirmed cases and 69 proba

ble, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,039 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,078 confirmed cases and 1,394 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,788 confirmed cases, 325 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,396 confirmed cases and 336 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,521 confirmed cases, 606 probable, 34 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,337 confirmed cases and 690 probable, 75 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,248 confirmed cases, 821 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Saturday posted 445 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 887,719. The state Saturday had 49 deaths attributed to the virus — including 48 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 19,163.

No updated figures were reported Sunday or Monday, Memorial Day.
