Students from 20 middle and high schools in the Poudre and Thompson School Districts awarded $105,204 to 36 Larimer County nonprofits through the Give Next philanthropy program.
Local business, foundations and individuals give $5,000 to each participating school to grant to a nonprofit, and this year students raised another $5,204 to accompany the $100,000 provided by donors, according to a press release from the Bohemian Foundation, which offers management support to the program.
Students work together to identify community needs, chose a focus area, research nonprofits, volunteer, review applications and decide who will receive their $5,000 grant.
Since the program started in 2021, students have funneled $595,000 to nonprofits in the community. Of that, students raised $85,000.
Seven of the schools are in the Thompson School District. The schools and the nonprofits they helped are:
- Berthoud High School: 3Hopeful Hearts; Healing Warriors Program; Hearts & Horses; La Cocina; and Sound Affects Music.
- High Plains School: CASA of Larimer County; Hearts & Horses; LAUNCH: Community Through Skateboarding; and Partners.
- Loveland High School: CARE Housing; FoCo Café; and Outreach Fort Collins.
- Mountain View High School: FoCo Café; Food Bank for Larimer County; Fort Collins Eyeopeners Kiwanis Club; Fort Collins Rescue Mission; and Sproutin’ Up Corporation.
- Thompson Valley High School: 3Hopeful Hearts and Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County.
