Two area counties saw large increases in reported COVID-19 cases on Friday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The health department said Mower County had 24 new reported cases, pushing its total cases to 112, and Steele County saw 12 new cases, increasing its total to 134.

Freeborn County had four new cases, pushing its total to 76, and Waseca County had one new case, bringing its total to 23. Faribault County remains at 11 cases.

Statewide, 813 new cases were reported, bringing the total lab-confirmed cases to 19,005. Thirty three new deaths were reported, the highest one-day total so far during the pandemic, increasing the total statewide deaths to 842. The deaths were in Anoka, Dakota, Goodhue, Hennepin, Ramsey, Washington and Wright counties.

Of the total cases, 12,696 patients no longer need to be in isolation, and 534 people are hospitalized, including 233 in intensive care.

The highest number of cases statewide have come from Hennepin County, with 6,350 cases and 518 deaths. The next highest counties are Ramsey with 2,018 cases and Stearns with 1,881. Rice County has had 328 cases and two deaths, and Olmsted County has had 525 cases and 10 deaths.

The state department states 180,791 tests have been completed, including 20,114 through the state public health lab and 160,857 through external laboratories.
