A hearing for a New Bloomfield man charged with attempted homicide has been continued until early November, according to court documents.
State police have charged Ashton C. Taylor, 30, with attempted homicide after a road-rage shooting in Wheatfield Twp. on Oct. 12, according to police and court documents.
Taylor is charged with three felonies including attempted homicide, aggravated assault/attempting to cause injury with extreme indifference, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the court filings. Taylor is also charged with two misdemeanors including reckless endangerment and simple assault.
According to the state police at Newport, the shooting happened at 6:10 a.m. on Newport Road (Route 849) near the intersection with Paradise Road. At that time, an unnamed 18-year-old male victim from Newport was driving on the road and came upon Taylor’s car. The victim told police he then passed Taylor’s vehicle and that was when the shooting happened.
Police allege Taylor shot at the victim’s car, according to their report. The bullet passed through the rear passenger door, grazed the rear of the driver’s seat, and embedded in the car’s support pillar behind the driver. The driver was not injured.
Taylor was identified as the suspect, and arrested, according to police. He was initially placed in Perry County Prison following an arraignment in front of Magisterial District Judge Elizabeth Frownfelter.
Taylor posted $25,000 bail and is awaiting a preliminary hearing, according to court documents. That was initially scheduled to be Oct. 22 in Frownfelter’s court but has been continued until Nov. 12.
