Now here are three things Evan Grant has observed so far this week in Rangers baseball:

• RHP Ian Kennedy is the latest reliever to wind up on the IL. Kennedy is dealing with a hamstring strain. He was unavailable on Tuesday when the Rangers lost a late 4-2 lead. The Rangers don’t believe this will be a long-term injury. Kennedy could be back as early as Wednesday when the Rangers close out a two-game series at Houston.
• To replace Kennedy, the club added RHP Spencer Patton to the bullpen. At 33 and out of the major leagues since 2016, Patton doesn’t exactly fit the profile of a young guy the team wants to audition. But, then again, this isn’t likely to be a long-term move. And the Rangers could use even a hint of veteran presence in the bullpen without Kennedy. So Patton, who pitched for the Rangers in 2014-15 and in Japan from 2017-20, gets a look. He gave the Rangers a scoreless ninth in his debut Wednesday.
• I think I promised I wouldn’t reference Kyle Gibson’s horrible, no-good, awful opening day start again. Well, I lied. His work since then continues to be nothing short of remarkable. Since that one-out start, Gibson has compiled a 1.51 ERA, .184 opponents’ batting average and a 0.91 WHIP. He’s been nothing short of fantastic. At Globe Life Field this year: A 0.96 ERA in five starts totaling 37.1 innings.
