(KWWL) - In a report, Tyson Foods is giving an outlook on the remainder of the 2020 fiscal year as they are expecting short-term challenges to continue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Along with the Waterloo plant, multiple other Tyson plants have temporarily suspended operations due to virus outbreaks and they are expecting more closures.

"Operationally, we have and expect to continue to face slowdowns and temporary idling of production facilities from team member shortages or choices we make to ensure operational safety," Tyson said in the report.

For plants that remain open, Tyson has implemented social distancing and other protective measures such as requiring face masks and taking employee temperatures. But overall, the company's slowing of production will continue to have an impact on the supply chain, according to CNN.

They are saying that these challenges related to the pandemic are expected to increase operating costs and lower production volume.

"The lower levels of productivity and higher costs of production we have experienced will likely continue in the short term until the effects of COVID-19 diminish," Tyson said.

Tyson recently took out a full-page ad to explain how there will be a shortage of protein in the supply chain as a result of the closures.

Shortly after, President Trump signed an order to keep meat processing plants open.

Tyson responded to the order saying they "appreciate the administration’s efforts to help the food supply chain" and they "remain committed to protecting the safety of our team members as we continue our efforts to keep feeding American families."
