While the New York Yankees have yet to be able to replicate the dominance they had over the sport in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, under manager Aaron Boone they have been pretty successful. They have made the playoffs all four years that he has been at the helm and he boasts a 328-218 record since he became the team’s manager back in 2018.
There is a certain amount of consternation over Boone within the Yankees fan base, however, as he has only managed to get to the American League Championship Series once (in 2019 where the Yankees fell to the Houston Astros) and have only one the division once in that span as well despite a lot of spending and lofty expectations.
However, the Yankees appear to be pleased with the work Boone has been doing and decided to lock him up for the foreseeable future.

The reaction amongst the Yankee faithful has been mixed thus far to say the least with a focus on the Yankees’ lack of postseason success being a particularly popular focal point. That said, it sounds like ownership and GM Brian Cashman have confidence that Boone’s skills are worthy enough of an extension despite those shortcomings.
One note: general manager Brian Cashman’s contract is up after next season and a changing of the guard could be coming. Its possible that Cashman could get promoted (which is possible given Steinbrenner’s affinity for him), moved to a different position in the organization, or potentially even not have his contract renewed at all. All of those possibilities would lead to a new general manager for the Yankees and could impact Boone’s long-term status with the Yankees despite this extension.
