If you live in Richardson and want a new tree, you might be in luck. The Texas Trees Foundation plans to give away 500 free trees to Richardson residents this Saturday.
In partnership with State Farm and the Arbor Day Foundation, the foundation will offer the trees in an effort to replant areas where trees were badly damaged or lost during the tornado that swept through the city in 2019.
To be eligible to receive a tree, you must live within Richardson city limits. Up to two trees will be given per household. Free mulch will also be provided.
When selecting a tree, residents should pay attention to how wide and tall it will grow, according to the Texas Trees Foundation. An urban forester will be at the event to help people select appropriate trees.
The giveaway will take place in parking lot C of Dallas College Richland Campus. Pickup for people who pre-register to receive a tree will run from 8 to 11 a.m., and walk-up registration will run from 11 a.m. to noon, while supplies last.
Those interested can pre-register here.
