Syracuse, N.Y. – Onondaga County’s popular double-your-money voucher program for local restaurants will return next week when the county will give away $175,000 in vouchers that did not get redeemed during the first go-round.
The program will return a third time around Father’s Day, when the county will provide yet more of the vouchers, County Executive Ryan McMahon said today.
The vouchers can be used to double the value of gift cards purchased at local restaurants; so, for example, spending $50 of your own money gets you a $100 gift card.
People who missed out last month, when the first $500,000 worth of vouchers were snapped up in less than five hours, will get another chance next week, McMahon said. Details about how the new give-away will work will be announced later.
Of the $500,000 in vouchers given out April 20, some $175,000 were never redeemed, so the county will give those away next week, McMahon said.
In June, the county plans to bring back the voucher program again. McMahon said the program is helping local restaurants to get back on their feet after struggling for months through the coronavirus pandemic.
At his news conference today, McMahon also announced that the Civic Center will reopen for normal business Monday. All visitors will be asked to wear masks so that security guards do not have to check each person’s vaccination status, McMahon said.
“It’s a little bit cleaner if people just wear the mask when they’re visiting,’' he said.
