KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The heat continues to show no signs of stopping. Now every day in our extended forecast has highs in the 90s!
The best rain chances are for the end of Sunday, and then again Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
If those don’t pan out, we’re in bigger trouble with near-drought conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
The Morristown radar is down for maintenance right now, but still, there are very few showers on the regional radars. Even with stifling heat (nearing a record Saturday) and uncomfortable humidity, things haven’t really broken through out lid. One or two showers may hit the valley late Saturday; otherwise the biggest threat for getting wet is campers in the National Park, right along the ridgeline.
If you’re grilling this evening, most will still be near 80° through 11 o’clock. Yikes!
The NEOWISE comet should be on full display after dusk, with decent weather cooperation apart from some haze and air pollution.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Temperatures are continuing to bump upwards above earlier forecasts this weekend. We’re hanging onto those middle 90s.
Rain does have a better shot at surviving the heat dome on Sunday afternoon! Looks like showers will form on the mountains and foothills around noon. That’s earlier than normal. Then the rain moves down into the Valley. Some could get a brief downpour, but it’s only a 40% chance! Once again we’re ridiculously hot, closer to a record than the average high.
Monday is piping hot but mainly dry. The best widespread chance for showers and storms is next Wednesday and Thursday!
Thursday brings a 60 percent chance of storms, but it’s not a very organized system – at least not now. That means storms should be very on-and-off.
Friday should be slightly drier and the weekend climbs the ladder with dry weather and the middle 90s.
