When the Buffalo Bills take on the New England Patriots tonight in Orchard Park, there will be at least one rowdy group of Central New York fans who know they can sleep in tomorrow morning.
The owners of Nestico’s Too diner in Camillus (and Chelsea’s Restaurant in Syracuse) are treating about 25 of their employees to the Monday Night Football game. They’re headed to Buffalo by limo today, and probably won’t make it back to Central New York until 2 a.m. or later.
Nestico’s Too typically opens at 7 a.m. on Tuesdays.
“We’ve done this before where we’ve opened the next day, but this time, it seemed to make sense to give everyone the day off to recuperate,” said owner Marty Richardson.
The difference is that in past years, Richardson and her sister, Ana, a manager at Nestico’s Too, came in to open up the morning after the game.
This year, Marty and Ana are taking a few days off in Florida. So Marty’s husband Dave and Ana’s husband Jason are leading the group to Buffalo.
As you might expect with people in the food business, everyone is bringing a dish to pass at the tailgate.
“We’ve put the boys in charge, so we’ll see what happens,” Marty Richardson said.
Dave Richardson and many of the staff at Nestico’s Too and Chelsea’s are avid Bills fans.
“On Sundays when the (Bills) are on, the TV has to be turned so they can see it from the kitchen,” Marty Richardson said.
Nestico’s Too, 4105 W, Genesee St., should reopen at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Chelsea’s, at 5076 Velasko Road, will open on schedule at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
