The New England Patriots defense intercepted Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson four times and recovered a New York fumble to give their own first-year QB Mac Jones his first career victory, 25-6, Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Mac vs. Zach show underwhelmed as Wilson struggled and Jones wasn’t asked to do a lot.
Wilson completed 19 of 33 passes for 210 yards for New York (0-2). Jones was 22 for 30 for 186 yards as New England evened its record at 1-1. He still hasn’t been intercepted as a pro.
The Patriots’ 11-game winning streak over the Jets is tied for the longest active streak in the NFL.
New England turned Wilson’s first two interceptions into two first-quarter scores — a Nick Folk 46-yard field goal and a James White 7-yard touchdown run — that put New England up 10-0.
The Jets got on the board with a 21-yard Matt Amendola field goal early in the second.
Jones, who ran the no-huddle offense in preseason games to simulate a two-minute drill, led the Patriots on a field goal drive to end the half that put the visitors up 13-3 at intermission.
Damien Harris (16 carries, 62 yards) fended off a host of would-be tacklers for a 26-yard TD to open the second half. After Folk missed that extra point, he kicked a 32-yard field goal to make it 22-3 after the third quarter.
STARTERS — With Trent Brown inactive, Yasir Durant started in his place at right tackle, but struggled. Justin Herron replaced him in the second quarter but had to be helped off the field shortly after.
Kyle Van Noy was also inactive but he didn’t start last week so the defensive starters remained the same.
FOLK STREAK — Folk’s third quarter field goal, his third of the game, gave him 32 consecutive field goals made without a miss passing Stephen Gostkowski for most in Patriots’ history. He added No. 33 late in the fourth quarter.
NEXT WEEK — The Patriots are home against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gillette Stadium. The Saints (1-1) lost to Carolina, 26-7 Sunday. The Jets are at the Denver Broncos at 4 p.m.
