Students of any age can continue learning through La Roche University’s Center for Lifelong Learning, with courses ranging from art and history, to fitness and philosophy.
The McCandless school established the Center for Lifelong Learning this year, touting the initiative as a way to allow adults of all ages and backgrounds to expand their learning through interactive classes, workshops and community programs.
“The development of a vibrant Lifelong Learning Center holds great potential for La Roche,” said Sister Candace Introcaso, the school’s president. “With an ever-growing population of retirees in the North Hills who are searching for educational and social enhancements to their lives, creating an intergenerational community has the potential to reap benefits to both retirees and the university community.”
This fall, the program will launch pilot courses as part of Adventures for Lifelong Learning, a membership-based program for adults 50 and older.
Through the program, adults can take classes simply for the sake of learning, without worrying about assignments, exams and grades.
The Adventures for Lifelong Learning program costs $25 per course or $50 for a pilot membership. A pilot membership includes unlimited courses and use of the walking track at La Roche’s Kerr Fitness & Sport’s Center at certain times from Oct. 18 through Nov. 18.
Membership also gives adult students the chance to take up to one undergraduate course per term, participate in community and social events, engage in health and wellness activities, travel through La Roche’s Study Abroad office and join spiritual programming in partnership with La Roche’s founding congregation, the Sisters of Divine Providence.
