Portland metro Tuesday weather: Continued rain, afternoon thunder; high of 61 - OregonLive

Portland’s weather should be a little less intense Tuesday than it was Monday when downtown Portland saw record-breaking rain, and Battle Ground may have had a tornado.

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service plan to visit the site of the possible tornado early Tuesday to conduct a storm survey and determine path length, path width, and strength of the tornado, according to a Twitter post.

The weather service says widespread showers and possible thunder are still in the forecast, but rain amounts should be less than they were 24 hours ago, and lightning is being seen only along the coast. The best chances of thunderstorms in the valleys will be this afternoon.

Tuesday’s rain should fall mostly before 5 p.m. and then taper off to a quiet evening. The high will be around 61 degrees.

Snow levels will hover around 5,500 feet across the mountains. There’s a freeze warning in effect overnight and into early Wednesday in portions of central Oregon.

Wednesday should be a mostly dry day across the metro area. There’s a 30% chance of rain, and skies will remain mostly cloudy. The high temperature should top out at 64.

Rain chances increase Thursday as the next system moves into the Pacific Northwest. A front moving south from Vancouver Island is expected to bring showers to the northern Oregon while the southern Willamette Valley should stay fairly dry. Skies will be cloudy, and the high will be around 67 degrees.

Rain may linger into early Friday, but long-range forecasts are showing a strong chance of temperatures warming and skies clearing for the weekend.
