JACKSON, MI-- The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced several I-94 updates as construction on the highway continues in the Jackson area.
The announced closures are part of phase two of the Jackson County I-94 Road and Bridge Reconstruction project. Improvements include bridge reconstruction, better lighting along the freeway and roundabouts at ramps.
Crews will continue building the I-94 bridge over West Avenue and placing embankment along the new westbound I-94 roadway near the U.S. 27/M-50 interchange. Westbound and eastbound I-94 will remain shifted with shoulder closures and reduced speed from Airport Road to Elm Avenue until mid-July.
During the week of May 17, drivers can expect the U.S. 127/M-50 ramp to westbound I-94 to be closed. One lane is also closed on north and southbound U.S. 127/M-50 from Sparks Street to Springport Road.
At 9 p.m. on May 21, northbound and southbound U.S. 127/M-50 will be closed and detoured between I-94 ramps until 6 a.m. May 24.
The southbound U.S. 127/M-50 ramp to eastbound I-94 is also closed and maintained by a temporary ramp with a temporary traffic signal.
On June 1, Lansing Avenue will be closed from Royal to Shirley drives for bridge construction.
