BOSTON — Boston Mayor Kim Janey is set to provide an update on the city police department’s leadership.
Janey tweeted Friday morning she will hold a press conference “to provide an update on the leadership of Boston police and our shared commitment to fostering greater trust with the communities we serve.”
Mayor Janey will speak at approximately 4 p.m. Friday. Boston 25 News will bring it to you live.
This comes after the department has been without an official commissioner since February when Dennis White, who succeeded William Gross in the role, was placed on leave days after being sworn in due to past allegations of domestic violence.
“These disturbing issues were not known to me or my staff, but should have been at the forefront,” former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said in February. “Upon learning of these serious allegations, I immediately acted, placing the Commissioner on administrative leave, while corporation counsel engages outside counsel to conduct a full and impartial investigation.”
According to the court paperwork obtained by Boston 25, the domestic violence allegations come from a woman that was filed in 1999. She accused White of threatening her and saying he wanted to shoot her.
Documents also show White’s teenage daughter accused White of telling her not to startle him, and White allegedly told the girl: “I sleep with a gun under my pillow.”
Superintendent-in-Chief Gregory Long has been serving as acting commissioner.
