HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The window to donate to a nonprofit of your choice as part of the 8th annual Give Hastings Day is now open.
Donors have until May 6 to choose from one of 92 participating nonprofits to give to before the window closes and the Hastings Community Foundation tallies up the total amount of donations.
One new feature this year is the option to donate to each nonprofit. Rather than inherently create a disparity between some larger, more well-known nonprofits and some newer, smaller ones, the Hastings Community Foundation added a “donate to all” option. Donors can log onto the website, choose an amount to give and select “donate to all”. When giving ends, the Community Foundation will count up the total amount that has been donated to all and divide evenly among the 92 nonprofits.
“I think what donors appreciate about Give Hastings Day is the money does stay local,” Hastings Community Foundation Executive Director Dan Peters said. “Even when we’re talking about national organizations that are participating, our rules say in order for you to be eligible the bulk of those dollars have to remain in our area.”
Another new feature this year is the option for donors to promote a nonprofit of their choice on their own by starting an individual fundraiser. People now have the opportunity to choose a nonprofit and share a specific fundraiser on their personal social media pages and ask for donations from others for that nonprofit.
Peters said each year the foundation needs to be creative to keep the donors active and engaged and show off what’s new because without the donors there is no Give Hastings Day.
There are eight new nonprofits participating this year. Information on each participating nonprofit can be found on the Give Hastings Day website. People can make donations on the official website, send a donation to the Hastings Community Foundation at 800 W 3rd St #232, Hastings, NE 68901 or drop a donation off at the office.
