A Grand Forks nonprofit is teaming up with a locally owned restaurant to provide a free lunch for staff at the Public Health Department.
The Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals organization is collecting donations through November to provide the meals, in partnerships with Smiling Moose Deli. Staff at the health department have been working long hours, oftentimes without a day off, to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, in conjunction with regular duties.
“Our public health workers have been incredibly dedicated to ensuring our communities are healthy and safe over the past few months,” said Kathryn Kester, GGFYP executive director. “This is just one small way our young professionals can say thank you for all of those long hours and sacrifices.”
Donations will be used to purchase boxed lunches for the 18 public health nurses and other staff members at the health department. Employees will be able to choose a Smiling Moose meal online, which will then be available for in-store pickup or curbside delivery. GGFYP is asking members of the public to donate, to make sure each worker receives a free lunch.
Donations can be made through PayPal, at info@ggfyp.com, or through mail to the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals, at 33 S. Third St., Suite C, Grand Forks, N.D., 58201. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 30.
Those who wish to facilitate a donation in another manner can reach out to Kathryn Kester by email, at kathryn@ggfyp.com.
GGFYP is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the development and growth of young professional’s in the area. The group often is involved in events that benefit local charities or nonprofit organizations.
