Today’s tip: When you’re feeling anxious, put your hands to work.

You know what’s hard to do when you’re scrolling through news until your brain is fully flooded with dread? Chop vegetables, that’s what. Or knit. Or put together a piece of furniture. As Dakota Morlan explains, anything that requires two hands and some degree of concentration is a great way to distract yourself from your own anxiety.

For Morlan, it’s painting her nails: “I do it largely because I enjoy the activity itself rather than the finished result,” she writes. “It takes my mind off whatever I’m worrying about because I have to focus on the very precise task before me.”
