The Braves were always going to be in a bit of a dogfight with the Nationals on Saturday. The Nats are probably a better team than their record indicates and Max Fried was not particularly on. However, what was a close game late turned into a rout in a hurry as the Braves fell to the Nationals by the score of 10-4.
While losses happen over the course of a season, even a shortened one, this one just felt like something was off. Ronald Acuna continued his torrid pace with another home run, but Fried looked very human, Tyler Matzek got banged around, and manager Brian Snitker managed the late innings like the team was down by five plus runs.
Every team has weird little funks like this, but with just a few weeks left to play, the Braves are going to have to shake this off and finish strong...even without a complete rotation.

Braves recall Chad Sobotka, option Huascar Ynoa to alternate site
The Braves had to make some roster adjustments in the wake of their doubleheader yesterday and some ‘interesting’ bullpen usage from manager Brian Snitker. The move ended up being a familiar one as Chad Sobotka was called up yet again while Huascar Ynoa was sent down after a rough time in the second game of the twin bill.
Acuña’s 18th leadoff HR sets franchise record
Lost, at least a little bit, in the goings on of the game on Saturday evening was that Ronald Acuna set a Braves record. After he continued his torrid pace with yet another home run, Ronnie set an Atlanta record with his 18th career leadoff homer. Given that he is just 22 years old and firmly among the best players in the game, we expect he will be able to pad his lead in that category significantly.

Trout hits 300th HR, sets Angels record
Speaking of team records, Mike Trout, who is likely to set a lot of records before his career is done, set the Angels career home run record with homer number 300 in his career. He isn’t even 30 yet and no one will be surprised if he ends up with the overall home run record by the time he retires.
Alford fractures elbow chasing down a HR
Anthony Alford was finally getting some footing as a lineup regular since he got claimed on waivers by Pittsburgh away from Toronto and he was contributing for the Pirates in his short time there. Unfortunately, a bit of an overzealous attempt to track down a home run ball led to him breaking his elbow and his season is now in jeopardy.
