The number of Louisiana residents applying for unemployment insurance benefits for the first time rose to 15,191 for the week ending Aug. 22.
That’s an increase of 3,662 from the previous week, according to Louisiana Workforce Commission.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 13,487 from the previous week’s average of 12,789.
“Continued claims” decreased for the week ending Aug. 22 to 249,610 from the previous week’s total of 250,720.
The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 263,843 from the previous week’s average of 283,307.
The numbers are still much higher than last year at this time, when 1,881 people applied for initial claims and 15,678 applied for continued claims.
