CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Guerline Williams’ phone rang off the hook for days as strangers offered donations, food, prayers, and even a potential job.

Days after being featured in a TAPinto Coral Springs news story about her family’s financial troubles during the Covid-19 crisis, Williams said her family has received more than $4,000 worth of food and assistance toward their rent and utility payments.

“I’m beyond grateful,” said 44-year-old mother of three. “People are just so nice. They’re not just giving us donations. They are also praying for us and offering to help us get through this hard time.”

In all, more than 40 people from Coral Springs and across the nation have called to help out,  she said.

An additional 59 people have donated $3,200 on the family’s GoFundMe page, which is aiming to raise $7,455 to cover rent for several months.

Since the pandemic started, Williams said she lost her job as a legal clerk, and so did her 44-year-old husband, Jean, who worked as a driver. For Jean, the stress triggered a mental health crisis that left him hospitalized twice.

To make matters even harder, Williams said she also has to care for her sister who suffers from mental illness and provide for her elderly parents who are stuck at home, afraid to go out with the Covid-19 outbreak (her father is suffering from cancer).

As the bills piled up, the family fell behind on rental payments of their three-bedroom home near Church by the Glades in Coral Springs and began worrying about losing their home.

Hours after the story ran, Williams said people began contacting her and offering to help.

Some brought the family boxes of food. Others dropped off gift cards to Publix and Walmart. Many others contributed $10 to $200 through the family’s GoFundMe page.

One person who works for a law firm is looking to help Williams find a job in the legal field, she said.

“These people are so nice. They gave us so much. They assured us that everything is going to be ok,” she said. “I hope so.”

The Williams family is seeking the public’s help. If you can give a donation for their rent or provide groceries for the family, call or text Guerline Williams at 954-715-9653 or support their GoFundMe page.
