It’s been hard to get some rain in southern Lower Michigan over the past month. Late next week the chance of getting useful rain will get easier.
If we get into a pattern that just won’t give us rain, it’s because the upper level air pattern is not conducive to making rain. The lack of rain pattern in southern Lower has come with the hot weather. Late next week the upper air will cool down. That lets the rain with storm systems coming from the west survive.
The extended forecasts for the next six to 10 days and the next eight to 14 days gives all of Michigan, including some of the parched areas of southern Michigan, a good chance at rain.
Rain chance forecast August 26 -30, 2020
When we look at the map above, it has the dates of August 26 to August 30. While southern Lower is in a better chance of rain, it might be the 28th, 29, or 30th when that occurs. So the rain would come in the end of the first forecast period.

The map above, with increased chances of into early September should have one or two decent shots of rain.
And you can see what goes hand-in-hand with rain - cooler temperatures. As the upper-level warm dome breaks down, rain starts up and temperatures go down some. I’m not talking about a big chill, but more of a return to near normal temperatures. Also remember that normal temperatures are going down so by September 1 we should top out in the upper 70s.

So southern Michigan folks that want a rain, hang in there. Keep gardens watered for the next week. It’s going to be flat-out very warm and dry. The dryness of the air at this time of year can really zap the health out of a plant. And someday late next week or the following week we should finally get some help from Mother Nature. Let’s just hope it’s not too late then as plants naturally shut down for the season.
