SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Several days after Tropical Storm Isaias made its way through the region, thousands of residents in Springfield continue to find themselves without power.
As of yesterday evening, the latest figures from JCP&L showed just over 3,500 Springfielders still in the dark, although actual numbers likely vary from said official total. One of the township officials with concerns over the slow response time is Deputy Mayor Chris Weber. In a post on the residents' forum last night, Weber laid out the township's concerns.
"I will say that we were not happy with the generic update received by JCP&L in regards to our township," Weber said. "Our crews have been out working non-stop clearing debris and will continue to do so. As I stated last update, we are still pressing them for more answers on restoring power to everyone.
"We absolutely expected more of a response from them with regards to specifics for our town. Many of you have had very positive outcomes in the last 24 hours and many of us are still in the dark. More info to come tomorrow morning as we will be resuming the pressure."
However, Weber acknowledged what he called a "kick-ass" crew at the DPW, OEM, Police, Fire, Recreation and Township Administration, as well as OEM Coordinator Scott Seidel and Business Administrator John Bussiculo for their work on the progress made so far.
In the meantime, residents who need to charge their devices can access a charging station located at Chisholm Community Center from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily until further notice. Residents should remember to wear a face covering, social distance, and be considerate of others who also require charging of their device.
As the Department of Public Works continues to clean up from the storm, residents may place storm debris (Branches, Shrubs, etc.) at their curbs for pickup by the DPW. The town asks that items set out be restricted to debris specifically as a result of the storm, as this pickup is not for contractors or personal landscape projects.
