GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - More than $1 million was raised during the 7th annual Go Big Give event on Tuesday.
The 24-hour online giving campaign brought in $1,007,671 with 5,025 donations for 137 local nonprofits in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick Counties.
Go Big GIVE is hosted by the Heartland United Way and Greater Grand Island Community Foundation. Organizers postponed the event from the original date in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since then, nonprofits have been busy supporting relief and response efforts and many have felt the impact of the increased demand for services. Organizers said it’s encouraging but not surprising that communities supported the nonprofits in a big way during Go Big Give.
The Edgerton Explorit Center in Aurora received the most donations with $84,174. It was followed not too far behind by the Grand Island Central Catholic Development Foundation with just over $81,000. Nebraska Christian Schools Foundation took the third spot with more than $62,000.
Gifts to Go Big GIVE grew with match-pool funds and incentive prizes that were provided by sponsors.
Additional goals for the one day giving event were to: help increase the visibility for local organizations; increase use of social media; attract new donors through the use of an online giving platform; and to educate and engage more people to be involved in supporting nonprofits year-round.
The Heartland United Way and Greater Grand Island Community Foundation wish to express their deep gratitude to the generous sponsors and donors for their incredible support for Go Big GIVE and the 137 participating nonprofit organizations.
They said thank you for a goal-breaking day of giving.
