WARSAW — Wyoming County marked its second consecutive day free of active COVID-19 cases as the GLOW region marked an apparent slowdown.

No new cases were reported for the second day in a row in Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties. The only exception was Livingston County, which again reported an additional positive test result.

Livingston County’s COVID-19 data tracking map showed a new case in Livonia on Wednesday, which brings the total number of lab-confirmed cases the county has had to 128.

The county Department of Health is reported four active cases as of July 1, while the number of recoveries remained at 116.

The number of active cases — all confirmed in the last three days — represent the highest single day total since June 1 when the county had six active cases. Throughout June, the county averaged 1.7 active cases per day, with three days of no active cases.

The other active cases include two in Dansville and one in Lakeville. Additional information on the cases has not been released.

There have been more than 8,700 tests for COVID-19 among Livingston County residents. Of the 8,739 total tests, there have been 8,611 negative tests, resulting in an infection rate among those tested of 1.5 percent.

On May 5, the infection rate of those tested was 6.7 percent and has generally been trending down, even as testing in Livingston County increased, according to data from the county department of health.

The four new cases have raised the infection rate from 1.3 percent on June 26.

Residents are reminded to be vigilant and continue safe practices to protect themselves from the spread of the COVID-19 virus. These precautions include practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings, properly washing hands, cleaning surfaces regularly and staying at home if sick in order to fight the spread of COVID-19 and continue the region’s low number of active cases.

Livingston County is tracking antibody testing on its COVID-19 website. The antibody test is a blood test that looks for antibodies that are created in your body after you have had COVID-19.

There have been 872 antibody tests among county residents, with 33 testing positive, a rate of 3.8 percent among those tested.

The antibody positives represent those individuals who have had an antibody test and were shown to have exposure to the virus, but did not end up getting symptoms of the virus, Livingston County Public Health Director Jennifer Rodriguez said.

A positive antibody test is not considered a positive COVID-19 test, and may instead be indicative of immunity to the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The county again reported no active cases as of Wednesday.

The county’s overall total remained at 89, with the number of recoveries at 84, and five deaths.

Wyoming County’s current statistics include:

n A total of 31 cases have been confirmed in the northwest quadrant that includes Attica, Bennington, Orangeville and Sheldon. Two have been attributed to Attica Correctional Facility and all 31 have recovered.

n Twenty-five cases have been confirmed in the northeast quadrant that includes Warsaw, Perry, Middlebury and Covington. Twenty of those have recovered and five have died.

n Fifteen cases have been confirmed in the southeast quadrant that includes Castile, Gainesville, Genesee Falls and Pike. All 15 have recovered.

n Eighteen cases have been confirmed in the southwest that includes Arcade, Eagle, Java and Wethersfield. All 18 have recovered.

A total of 25 people remained in active quarantine as of Wednesday. The county has had 5,634 negative test results.

The age breakdown of positive COVID-19 cases included 20 people in their 20s; 16 people in their 40s; 15 people in their 60s; 14 people in their 50s; nine people in their 70s; eight people in their 30s; three people in their 80s; two people less than 20 years old; and two people in their 90s.

For the second day in a row, both Genesee and Orleans have no new cases.

Genesee County’s total positive cases remained at 224 overall. To date, the county has had 9,352 negative tests.

The community has four people under mandatory isolation; 43 people in the community under mandatory quarantine; five total deaths and 161 community recoveries.

Orleans County kept steady at 266 positive cases, and of the active cases, seven are currently hospitalized.

Orchard Manor has had 58 cases and 23 deaths, for a mortality rate of 39.65 percent. The Villages of Orleans Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albion has had 89 cases and 30 deaths, for a mortality rate of 33.7 percent.

To date, Orleans County has had 5,013 negative tests. The community has one person under mandatory isolation; 13 people in the community under mandatory quarantine; 54 total deaths; and 112 community recoveries.

Despite the low numbers, the health departments are still advising people to be careful and take precautions including masks, handwashing and social distancing.

“Now that summer is in full swing and with the Independence Day holiday and graduation parties picking up it is important to limit the number of contacts people have,” officials from the Genesee and Orleans County Health Departments said in a news release. “Make sure you are practicing social distancing especially if you have underlying health conditions or are over 65 years old. Wear masks/face coverings whenever you are out in public, especially if you cannot maintain a 6 foot space between non-household members. Wash or sanitize your hands and shared items often.

“The most important thing to remember is if you are having any type of symptoms, stay home!” they continued. “Some of the symptoms people have been reporting are fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste and/or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, headaches, fatigue nausea or vomiting and/or diarrhea.”
