DANBURY — The supervised pre-trial hearing of the Oakville man charged for his role in the June 2018 death of a woman on Candlewood Lake has been continued to next month.
Gary Morrone, 68, is facing criminally negligent homicide, first-degree reckless boating and failure to report a boating accident charges following the June 19, 2018, death of a Waterbury teacher.
Wanda Tirado, 38, was thrown from a pontoon boat piloted by Morrone near Squantz Cove in New Fairfield and injured by the boat’s propeller.
Investigators said they have found inconsistencies in Morrone’s description of the events that led to Tirado’s death.
Police said Morrone first told them he had been swimming with Tirado when his boat began to drift away from them. They said he later changed his story and stated he heard her yell for help, walked around on the boat to find her and then jumped into the water to help her.
Morrone is out on a $10,000 professional surety bond. His pre-trial hearing at state Superior Court in Danbury is now scheduled for Aug. 31.
