Is Tom Brady and Antonio Brown playing together in Tampa Bay still a possibility? Rumors have surfaced again recently.
Brady, who signed a two-year contract with the Buccaneers in March, has been in “continued contact with Brown” since the New England Patriots released the wide receiver last season, NFL Network’s Michael Giardi reported Wednesday.
Brown, a seven-time Pro Bowler, caught four passes for 56 yards and one touchdown from Brady in the Patriots’ 43-0 win over the Dolphins on Sept. 15, the only game Brown played in the NFL during 2019.
The Patriots released Brown after just 11 days because of allegations of sexual assault, sexual misconduct and rape.
Giardi tweeted, “There has been talk of Antonio Brown to the #Buccaneers again over the last couple days (though Bucs management remains a “no”). Perhaps the impetus for that is Tom Brady’s continued contact with Brown. The two men have remained in touch since Brown’s release from the #Patriots.”
A Brown and Brady reunion remains possible, former Patriots executive Mike Lombardi said during a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.
“I am thinking they are chipping away,” Lombardi said. “You know how Andy (Dufresne) used to chip away at the wall at Shawshank? Chip, chip, chip. I think there’s some chipping going on down there. I am just saying keep your antennas up.”
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians dismissed rumors that surfaced in March during an interview with the Tiki and Tierney Show.
“It’s not gonna happen,” Arians said. “There’s no room, and probably not enough money, but it’s just not gonna happen. It’s just not a fit here... I just know him and it’s not a fit in our locker room.”
Teams that had interest in Tom Brady in NFL free agency were under the impression the quarterback “wanted to bring Antonio Brown with him to a new team,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported in March.
