A stationary weak trough boundary from the remnants of Ida is still stalled along the northern Gulf coast of LA and MS this afternoon. With this system, there`s enough moisture in the region to support a few storms into the evening hours. Storms will be capable of producing frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and downbursts of strong winds this evening before they settle down and drift southeastward overnight.

Temperatures this afternoon are hot and on track to peak in the low to mid 90s today and in this humid, stormy weather, heat indices will be in the 100-108 range, so heat advisory remains in place. Overnight, temperatures will cool to the low to mid 70s.

Upper level ridging will build over the southern Mississippi Valley Thursday and Friday, with low level ridging digging southeast over the eastern half of the US. This will push a weak backdoor cold front south through the area Thursday through Friday morning. Scattered to numerous showers with scattered embedded thunderstorms across the area Thursday with the front, pushing south to once again roughly from I-10 south for Thursday night into Friday morning. Hot, humid conditions will continue Thursday, with afternoon heat index values around 100-105. A heat advisory is in effect for Thursday afternoon. Slightly less humid conditions on Friday will lead to max heat indices around 95-103, so another heat advisory day is possible on Friday. Overnight lows will be cooler though, in the upper 60s to low 70s.
