The Portland metro area should see light showers Saturday morning before clouds give way to a mostly sunny afternoon, according to forecasters.

Cloudy skies could linger through mid-morning, but are expected to clear by mid-afternoon as the region gets ready for a week of dry and sunny weather starting Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The precipitation early in the day will lead to some snow fall at higher elevations above 1,500 feet, with 1 to 5 inches of snow forecasted for the Oregon Cascades and 3 to 7 inches predicted for the south Washington Cascades, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature will remain on the cooler side Saturday, reaching a high of about 52 degrees during the day before dropping into the low 30s or even upper 20s overnight, bringing widespread frost to the Portland area heading into Sunday morning.

But the frost will dissipate early Sunday morning as the region begins to see warmer weather heading into the week ahead. Sunny weather is expected Sunday and will last through the week. Temperatures could reach the low 70s by Thursday, forecasters said.
