MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Girl Scout cookie season is nearing the end, but they have been working to collect cookie donations for our essential workers and food banks.
One thing people look forward to every year is Girl Scout cookie season, and this year is no different.
Amaris Harris with Girl Scouts of Louisiana Pines to the Gulf says they put their efforts together to collect cookie donations for local food banks and essential workers.
This program is called Cookies for a Cause.
“Those are two groups that we know have been super important, especially throughout this pandemic,” Marketing and Communications Director Harris said. “We want to be able to give back to them, and the girls want to be able to donate to them, especially for that little kind of comforting moment that Girl Scout cookies tend to evoke.”
She says this can spread a little bit of joy to our essential workers.
Cookies were donated through regional drive-thru booths, but they can see still be donated through traditional booths, online or through a Girl Scout.
Torey Soignier of Troop 1780 says this cookie season has been different but still fun.
“My favorite part about selling the Girl Scout cookies is seeing people happy when buying them,” Soignier said.
Harris says they can’t believe how great the turnout has been this year will all things considered.
The girls have stepped up, and the community has stepped up with them,” Harris said. “They have had to go back to their cookie cupboards to get more cookies because there’s so much demand. It’s such a big thing right now. The Girl Scout cookie is a kind of comfort. It’s something that is a bit of normalcy for everybody.”
The Girl Scouts are in their final push for donations, so they can bring in as much as possible to give away to hardworking people in the community.
