The Wait for Dry Season Continued Through October - Bay News 9

ultrasimi.blogspot.com

ORLANDO, Fla. - October is normally the transition month out of rainy season and into dry season for Central Florida.

While the rain was not as prevalant throughout October, the heat and humidity made it feel more like summer and it left Floridians begging for more cold fronts.

Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, Sanford and Leesburg all experienced one of their top-five warmest Octobers on record.

What You Need To Know

  • October finished as one of the top-five warmest on record

  • Morning temperatures finished much warmer than average

  • October rainfall was slightly below average for most of Central Florida

The main driver behind ourwarm October: Morning low temperatures.

Lows for the month generally ran around five-to-six degrees warmer than average. Compare those numbers to afternoon highs, which ran around two-to-three degrees warmer than average.

Warm low temperatures continue to outpace warm afternoon high temperatures here in Central Florida.

The reason the temperatures are staying so warm at night is because the humidity has been higher. Higher humidity does not allow temperatures to cool as much during the overnight hours.

Even with the higher humidity and the summer-like feel, October did finish slightly drier than average.

Orlando, Melbourne, and Leesburg finished about a quarter-to-a-half inch drier than average.

Daytona Beach and Sanford were both around two inches drier than average.

There were very few strong fronts that moved through the region to bring rain or usher in cooler temperatures.
