FRUITLAND, Md. – Police officers in Fruitland will soon be handing out smiles to children in the area, and it’s all thanks to one generous donor.

Chief Brian Swafford tells 47 ABC that a donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted the police department and asked to donate toys that the officers could then hand out to children in the town.

The police department decided to call the gift giving the Give Where you Live Campaign, and says this is the perfect way to connect with their community.

“It’s an opportunity to maybe put a smile on a kid’s face that otherwise wouldn’t have one that day or just to share some positivity, we’ve been living in coronavirus world for months now and this is just an opportunity to maybe, as kids are getting back outside, to give them something to enjoy the day,” Chief Swafford said.

If you’re interested in donating toys or money to the campaign to keep it going, you can contact the Fruitland Police Department at 410-548-2803.
