Toys for Tots in need of donations to give children a wonderful Christmas - Canon City Daily Record

ultrasimi.blogspot.com

The U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program has commenced in Cañon City for the 2021 Christmas season. Starting in 1947, the program has experienced nationwide success and annually brings more than 18,600,000 toys to underprivileged children.

Toys for Tots local contact, Carl Clink, said that there is usually a particular need for baby and infant items as that age group tends to get overlooked. However, the program accepts new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages and reaches into the teenaged years. In addition to the regular donations receptacles located throughout town, there will be ammunition boxes to donate any loose or spare change.

As with any other institution on the planet, the program suffered because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The local sector of Toys for Tots accrued $8,000 in donations, which is a far cry away from the $28,000 donated in 2019.

“We really need the help this year,” Clink said. “I’m getting toys from the foundation, but we are really going to need help this year to get the campaign fulfilled.”

The organization hopes to rebound from the difficult 2020 season with a successful and bountiful 2021 year. Donation receptacles at various locations will be available until Dec. 22 and donations will actively be accepted during that time. The program is also partnering with Hope for the Holiday’s, alongside the Pregnancy Center and Loaves & Fishes, to bring resources to less fortunate families this holiday season.

“Over the years, people in Fremont County and Custer County have been very generous. Last year was the only year — we all struggled because of COVID.”

To sign your child up for the program, visit www.toysfortots.org. Only parents may sign their children up. The deadline to sign up a child is mid-December.

To donate to the cause financially, make a check out to Toys for Tots and mail it to the following address and the funds will be sent to the foundation within 24 hours: Carl Clink, P.O. Box 919, Cañon City, CO, 81215.

The holidays are right around the corner and programs like Toys for Tots make the season a little bit brighter for all who participate.

“Help the children in Fremont County have a little Christmas,” Clink said.

Donation receptacles, which are attended by members of the United States Marine Corps, are currently available throughout the community at the following locations:

— Walmart, 3105 U.S. 50
— City Market, 1703 Fremont Dr.
— Tractor Supply Company, 1919 E. Main St.
— Walgreens, 1609 Fremont Dr.
— Big R, 1711 Fremont Dr.
— HomeSmart Preferred Realty, 1202 Royal Gorge Blvd.
