Except for platforms and a charging station we could begin passenger service with battery powered light rail, today. If we rip up the rail and “bank” it, we will never see the rail corridor used for mass transportation. If we don’t have the will to move forward with all of the track in place, how do we expect to move forward when the rail has disappeared and the right-of-way has been re-purposed?
We have a great opportunity to develop this rail right-of-way to improve our transportation alternatives. The rail is there now, let’s use it now, the future may hold other HOV alternatives or even individual driver-less pods.
There is a transportation problem now, let’s have a transportation solution now. We should not give away the rail right-of-way nor should we study it for another 25 years.
Greenway will make a trail, but it will destroy our great transportation option.
