CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported the lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the last six weeks in West Virginia in new numbers released Monday.
Hospitalizations were at 643 Monday. There were at 610 coronavirus patients back on Dec. 6. COVID-19 hospitalizations reached a pandemic high of 818 on Jan 5.
The DHHR said there were 172 patients in ICU Monday and 91 patients on ventilators.
The state confirmed 988 new cases Monday, active cases are now at 26,777. The daily positivity test rate is 6.19%.
The DHHR added eight deaths in Monday’s report. There have been 1,784 deaths since the pandemic began. The newly reported deaths include an 85-year old male from Upshur County, a 57-year old female from Wood County, a 57-year old male from Upshur County, a 35-year old male from Wood County, a 96-year old female from Brooke County, an 81-year old female from Hancock County, a 58-year old male from Morgan County, and a 70-year old male from Monongalia County.
The estimated rate of spread, the Rt Value, has West Virginia at the lowest in the nation at 0.85. The state had the highest rate of estimated spread was second highest among all 50 states on Dec. 24.
West Virginia has fully vaccinated more than 23,000 residents. The state has received more than 200,000 doses of vaccine with 130,000 residents receiving at least one shot.
