OSU’s Teven Jenkins Would Give The Green Bay Packers Several Options Up Front - Forbes

Note: The NFL Draft begins April 29 and the Green Bay Packers have the 29th pick in the first round. Between now and then, I’ll examine 29 players — one per day — the Packers could select with that pick.

Today, we look at Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins.

TEVEN JENKINS, OL, OKLAHOMA STATE

THE SKINNY

Jenkins, a fifth-year senior, was a three-year starter at OSU. He played left tackle, right tackle and right guard.

The majority of Jenkins’ 37 career games (35 starts) came at right tackle and he blossomed during his final two seasons. Jenkins played the first eight games in 2020 before opting out with lower back issues.

Despite opting out early, Jenkins earned first-team all-Big Eight Conference honors in 2020.

MEASURABLES

Height: 6-5 7/8”

Weight: 317

Bench press: 36 reps of 225

40-yard dash: 4.96

Arms: 32 7/8”

Hands: 9 5/8”

SCOUTING REPORT

Jenkins is athletic, agile, powerful, and blocks with proper fundamentals. Jenkins has incredibly strong hands and a frame that’s already well-developed.

Jenkins was a powerful run blocker in college with the quickness to succeed in gap or zone schemes. He also stunned scouts, breaking 5.0-seconds in the 40-yard dash at his recent pro day.

Jenkins’ power makes him an ideal fit at right tackle. But his surprising speed and length will also have some teams believing he could play left tackle at the next level.

PACKERS’ PREDICAMENT

The Packers lost Corey Linsley, arguably the best center in football, in free agency. Left tackle David Bakhtiari, who tore his ACL before Week 17 last year, might also miss the start of the 2021 campaign.

So Green Bay needs reinforcements up front.

The flexibility of Green Bay’s linemen allows it to draft for talent, not for need.

Elgton Jenkins can play virtually any position up front and could wind up replacing Linsley at center. Lucas Patrick can play guard or center, while Billy Turner can play tackle or guard.

The Packers haven't used a first-round pick on the offensive line since they took Derek Sherrod in 2011. Jenkins would give them an instant starter capable of playing tackle or guard.

THEY SAID IT

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy on Jenkins: “He’s always been very gifted, so the game came easy to him. A year ago, nine months ago, it looked like he made a decision that he was going to have to play at a higher level, to dominate at this level, which gives him a chance to play at the next level. I think that’s the transformation that he made.”

Jenkins, on how he sees himself: "A tough, physical, nasty, (expletive). A dude that does not shy away from hits, a dude that actually wants to get physical and a dude that's going to bust his ass.”

Gundy on Jenkins: “He's uncharacteristically strong. I watched him in a weight room (last) summer, I think he hit 225 like 35 times and they weren't even counting. I mean he was just doing it. He has tremendous feet. He's got good leverage, he's highly intelligent and his work ethic is getting better.”
