“So it’s super exciting everybody is sharing, everybody is inviting friends and that’s what we really want people to invite as many people as possible, to join 10K Moms,” she said. “This is just turned into even more than what I thought it was going to turn into because I’ve gotten to know some of the members.”
Martinez said in addition to their own three kids, she and her boyfriend now have custody of his three siblings after their mother died last year. She said the community stepped in to help greatly in the beginning and she wanted to find a way to pay that kindness forward.
Martinez also wanted to create a place to share the ups and downs of motherhood and to give moms a chance to win prizes, like Amazon gift cards, care baskets and eyelash sets.
“It’s not easy raising kids in a pandemic,” Martinez said. “I feel like I always think I’m doing it wrong I feel like everybody thinks that they’re doing it all wrong because we don’t know you know? So, it’s nice to have support and to be able to talk to each other.”
She said the group hit 1,200 members in just three days. She asks moms in the group to donate $1 each week, which then goes towards prizes for two randomly selected moms per week to lift their spirits.
