If anything Firefly shouldn’t be rebooted, but continued from the film - Redshirts Always Die

ultrasimi.blogspot.com

Rumors exist that claim Disney+ may reboot the early 2000’s Fox series, Firefly, now that Disney owns the right to it as part of the Fox-buyout.

Disney oversaturates their own markets so much that it’s hard to keep up with everything. They went from releasing one Marvel film a year to three or four, and two or three television series. They’re doing it again now with the Star Wars universe and they’ll do it again and again and again. It’s what they do. They will take whatever they own, and twist it until it no longer can make them money. So when a rumor about the cult classic series Firefly being rebooted started to make rounds on the web, fans were rightfully worried.

We all know Disney will eventually do something with it, but if they have to do anything at all, why not make it into a new television series instead. You could pick up after the events of the film Serenity, which was supposed to act as a send-off to the franchise. You could bring back everyone, introduce some new characters, and give the Reavers some new lore. For instance, their ability to prolong life and seemingly resurrect the dead.

This could be how you bring back Alan Tudyk as Wash.

Or you could have the Alliance bring back Wash, either as a clone or just claim Wash was “mostly dead.”

Either way, bringing back the cast and introducing some new characters could revive the franchise and make it attractive to both old and new fans alike. It can continue on, unravel the mystery of the Hands of Blue, and maybe even bring back The Operative from Serenity.

While most of the main actors like Nathan Fillon (The Rookie), Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien), Jewel Staite (Family Law), and Adam Baldwin (GunnyTime) have other projects they’re currently involved in as of this writing, it’s not at all hard to think that they could find some time in their schedule to make it work. The only issue with a reboot would be that Ron Glass, who played Sheperd, has since passed away.

A continuation would be a lot easier to swallow for most fans than a reboot. Consider it, Disney.
