VTDigger is a nonprofit news source dedicated to public service journalism, and we are so proud to be member supported. We are fearless and persistent in our reporting on issues of import to Vermont communities.
We are just over two-thirds of the way to our annual fundraising goal to meet our newsroom budget for the upcoming year.
Eleven local supporters from across the state have banded together with Newsmatch, the Knight Foundation and the Democracy Fund to provide a dollar for dollar match for every member donation for a limited time.
That means that when you support our watchdog reporting today, your gift to VTDigger will be doubled– including monthly donations for one year.
We will also continue to donate 10 meals to the Vermont Foodbank for each person who makes a membership donation. Digger members have already raised more than 12,000 meals for the Foodbank!
Our goal is to inspire a total of 4,000 members to donate to VTDigger and send 40,000 meals to the Foodbank by the end of the year. We only have 1,300 members left to go. Will you join us by making a monthly or one-time contribution?
Local journalism is good for democracy. Its erosion is bad news for communities. According to a growing body of research compiled by The Democracy Fund, every dollar spent on local news produces hundreds of dollars in public benefit by:
- Spurring elected officials to work harder for their constituents
- Keeping government spending in check and limiting bureaucratic corruption
- Bringing about positive change that impacts laws and lives
Investigative journalism, like the kind we are known for at VTDigger, is original, time-consuming work about real issues that people want to keep secret. Our investigations into the Slate Ridge militia training site in Pawlet and abuse at the Kurn Hattin Homes for Children each took months to produce, but revealed new information to the public.
