Although the grants are modest in size, and unlikely to reverse the long-term fortunes of any venue devastated by the pandemic, they are one of the few such programs available to for-profit operators. The City said that applications will open Monday and are restricted to venues within Chicago that hold a Public Place of Amusement, or Music and Dance, license, and primarily produce or present performing arts programming – although such fields as performance art and live music mixing by DJs also qualify.
