McCOOK, Neb. — After more than 360 days of planning, Big Give McCook is just days away. On Thursday, Nov. 4 at midnight, Big Give McCook kicks off its sixth year for 24 hours of giving.

Big Give includes more nonprofit organizations than ever - 31 this year. But organizers would like to see even more people making donations, whether large or small, from midnight to midnight.

Big Give McCook is one day dedicated to philanthropy, where everyone can be involved, where every donation matters, where every single person can make a difference.

All donors get to choose not only how much money they would like to donate, but also where they would like the money to go. Do you like animals? There is the McCook K9 Korner Dog Park or McCook Humane Society. Do you want to support arts and culture? The McCook Arts Council, McCook Art Guild and the Fox Theater are just a few of the organizations represented in the Big Give McCook. Maybe you have a passion for youth? TeamMates and St. Patrick Elementary could use your support.

And if you just can’t decide who to support, a donation to Community Chest will divide the funds among its 12-core agencies which receive funds from the organization which oversees Big Give McCook.

At the end of the day, all the organizations involved in Big Give McCook are working to make McCook and Southwest Nebraska a better place to call home. They meet vital needs of the community and serve members of the community who may be struggling.

For some organizations, the donations serve to meet day-to-day operational costs. For other groups, the donations will help complete a project. While other organizations will use funds to further their programs and expand their impact.

More information about Big Give McCook, along with information about each non-profit and the projects they are planning, are available at biggivemccook.org. While the website is currently available for information purposes, the public will not be able to make donations online until 12 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4. The website will accept donations until 11:59 p.m. that evening.

In-person giving stations will be open throughout the day, including two drive-thru locations.

In addition to the personal donations, Big Give McCook is made possible because of matching funds from local businesses and sponsors. Sponsors include Great Western Bank, Graff Charitable Foundation and MNB Bank, Horizon Bank, Valmont, and Community Hospital.

“Power Hours,” where donations will be matched 2-to-1, are also scattered throughout the day with a power hour at each giving station, plus a pop-up power hour on Norris Avenue at 6 p.m. Thursday. All donations given at that giving station during their “power hour” will be eligible to be drawn for matching funds, until $1,000 is reached.

The Community Chest provides financial resources to a dozen agencies in McCook, which serves the basic needs of the community. Community Chest is a volunteer organization and is an account of the McCook Community Foundation Fund.
