Start off the holiday season with a gift to your favorite local nonprofit.
Give Big Pittsburgh returns on Nov. 30 for its fifth consecutive year, offering folks a chance to kick off the season of giving with a donation to their favorite local nonprofits. As of Nov. 8, 393 organizations have registered, and registration is open to charitable nonprofits serving Western Pennsylvania until Nov. 26.
The event falls on Giving Tuesday, a national response to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday craze. Giving Tuesday was created back in 2012 with the intention of encouraging acts of generosity.
“Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give,” reads a post on the Giving Tuesday site.
In line with the goals of Giving Tuesday, Give Big Pittsburgh aims to provide a simple way to connect donors to the charitable causes they care about most.
To make it all happen, Pittsburgh Magazine partners with GiveGab, the company that powers the online giving platform and helps nonprofits raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers quickly and efficiently. GiveGab has helped more than 25,000 nonprofits raise more than $200,000 in the past year alone.
“This is our chance to show again how generous Pittsburghers are,” says Pittsburgh Magazine Publisher and Vice President Betsy Benson. “Since we started Give Big Pittsburgh in 2017, it has raised more than $8 million for hundreds of nonprofits. The pandemic has hit our nonprofits hard. We hope Pittsburgh will step up again to help them help others.”
Donations open Nov. 30, and the portal will remain active until Dec. 31 for year-end giving.
